And we interview the world’s most respected beauty and wellness experts—dermatologists, estheticians, hair stylists and colorists, makeup artists, nail technicians, nutritionists, cosmetic dentists, and more—who share tips, studies, exclusive breakthroughs, and ingredient innovations to further our editorial integrity and authority.

Our editors and writers take great pride in the quality of our work and create original, accurate, expert content that is free of ethical concerns, conflicts, or misinformation. We share everything you need to know today, while making sure our library is kept accurate. As is common in the beauty industry, SHS Cosmetics editors and writers are sometimes provided with complimentary products for testing and review purposes. Our product reviews are independent and based on research and product testing. These are chosen carefully and you can trust we’ll only lead you to reputable websites—sites we’d buy beauty products from ourselves, or view as trusted sources of information (like the National Center for Biotechnology Information, where we link to for a lot of our studies) — never spam.

Quality Standards
Every article you see on SHS Cosmetics has several people behind it working to make sure that it is responsible, accurate, understandable, helpful, and reflective of our guiding principles and editorial guidelines.

Content is only published to the site after it has been reviewed and edited by our editorial team. All visuals, tools, and videos are subject to the same approval process.

Aside from creating new content, our editorial team also routinely updates existing content to make sure it meets our quality standards. Among other things, articles are assessed to ensure that a) they reflect current research and the advice of beauty/health/wellness experts; b) contain working links; c) answer any new questions a reader may have as a result of changing times. If necessary, articles are re-edited.

If an article has been modified, we’ll make sure to designate it as such at the end of the story—you can also check the “Last Updated” date at the top of the page. Experienced editors trained in our process and policies can sometimes assist with some updating efforts. The editorial team collaborates with other SHS Cosmetics colleagues to ensure that every aspect of our sites is in line with our mission and standards.

SHS Cosmetics staff members who work on content creation do not work on the advertising team. All staffers are responsible for disclosing any potential conflicts of interest.

Though SHS Cosmetics editors write a lot of the content you’ll find on our site, we also feature stories from outside writers. The majority of our writers are beauty experts who are specifically selected for both their extensive knowledge and industry experience, as well as their ability to write about beauty in a clear, helpful way. Sometimes, we’ll also feature content from individuals who simply have a beauty story worth sharing.

Every article’s author is listed at the top of the page with a linked bio, which you can access to learn more about his or her credentials, education, professional experience, and social media presence.

Product Recommendations
It’s safe to say, we feel pretty passionately about beauty products. We consider it our civic duty to test as many of them as we can on a daily basis, so we can report back and share the ones we think are actually worth your time. When it comes to the products we try, we don’t discriminate—whether it’s luxury, drugstore, or all-natural, we’ll give it a fair chance if we think there’s something about it that makes it worth testing (think: a cool new texture, breakthrough ingredient, or just a really mesmerizing shade of violet we can’t stop swatching).

Our Process
As is common in the industry, beauty brands and PR agencies might send us products for editorial consideration, but our thoughts and opinions are 100-percent our own—we’ll only sing a product’s praise if it’s actually worthy of it. If you’re reading an editor’s product review on SHS Cosmetics, you can trust we’re writing it up for one of two reasons: it impressed us so much we need to tell the world; or it’s a buzzy new launch we think you’re probably curious about trying, too. We want you to consider SHS Cosmetics your first and one-stop destination when it comes to discovering your next holy-grail product. Trust that our editors have a keen eye for product trends and are the first to test and review groundbreaking new products before anyone else (we like to think it’s our forte).
